PULMONARY REHABILITATION:

Our program focuses on the rehabilitation of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, i.e. asthma, bronchitis and emphysema.   The program provides exercise, educational, and nutritional support.  Our exercise goals are to optimize pulmonary hygiene, improve breathing patterns by use of diaphragmatic breathing, pursed lip exhalation, and paced breathing technique and to recondition you  with aerobic training.

Exercise tolerance can be improved with training of COPD patients.

The mechanism of improvement is through:

1.Improved energy capacity

2.Improved motivation

3.Decreased sensation of shortness of breath.

4.Improved use of accessory muscles and
increased endurance of arm muscles for activities of daily living.

During our Pulmonary program you will learn the following exercises:

1. Breathing Exercises:

  • Controlled Breathing Techniques

  • Pursed Lip Breathing (PLB)

  • Diaphragmatic Breathing (DB)
